Rajmohan Gandhi

Rajmohan Gandhi was born in New Delhi in 1935 and is a professor and former Indian politician and journalist who has written books on Hindu-Muslim relations, on figures from the Indian subcontinent, and South Asian history. Apart from serving on IofC's International Council, he is co-chair of the India-based Center for Dialogue and Reconciliation, a member of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award Jury, and a Trustee of Friends of Moral Re-Armament (India). His association with IofC dates from 1956 and was instrumental in the creation of Asia Plateau, IofC's center for dialogue and reflection situated in the hills of western India. Rajmohan is currently Visiting Professor in Political Science and Academic Director of Global Crossroads, at the University of Illinois, USA.

These days I often find myself in Shahibag, which now houses the papers, personal effects and photos of Vallabhbhai Patel, whose biography I am writing. Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru together administered India between Independence in 1947 and December 1950, when Patel died. Nehru was Prime Minister and Patel was styled Deputy Prime Minister, but they shared power equally and jointly.
